NASA
Poor old NASA, ever since you-know-who walked on the you-know-what they have really struggled to come up with something remotely as cool.
Its gotten so exciting up there that when a piece of foam the size of a margarine container falls off their super-duper space shuttle it makes the 6 o'clock news.
NASA is supposed to consist of the world's most advanced technology - they are supposed to construct space shuttles with things that will take 50 years to reach your local Dick Smith store.
But as we have all been informed, they build their space shuttles with foam.
They could have used a special name for it. Like Globular Synthetic Insulation Material or even Articulated Cloaking Matrix - it's like they've given up.
Clearly, the space engineers take the model prototype that they slapped together with paddle pop sticks and aluminium foil then figure they should just use the same materials. Considering that the foam is of such unreliable quality it led to disastrous consequences for the original Endeavour mission you have to wonder why on earth they would take their chances on the same stuff ever again.
As far as I understand, they need an insulating material to protect the skin of the shuttle during re-entry to the Earth's atmosphere.
Maybe they should try al-foil next time ; )

Infognito
yes, it is a worry, when the leading space agency has to make do with the lowest bidder for the cheapest materials, so astronauts can sit atop of a 'controlled' explosion that hurtles them into space, from where it is unlikely they can be rescued should they need to be, because no one ever has a second shuttle ready to go in case they do need saving!!!
there....rant ended....go in peace...or is that pieces when one speaks of shuttles????
